Grand Valley (Klimt) surged ahead in the $10,000 Claiming race, held as the fourth race this Friday at Gulfstream Park. The chestnut horse ran detached from the leaders and, in the final stretch, made an open move under the guidance of Panamanian jockey Miguel Vasquez. This marked the third victory of his campaign in eleven attempts.
«Miguel (Vasquez) followed the instructions. Generally, on the dirt track, you have to conserve the horse. He came off a win, but I think that time he pushed him too early. Today, he showed a better finish,» noted Victor Barboza, the trainer of the Kentucky-bred horse for which they paid $30,000 at auction.
«He’s a quite useful horse, he could have had a greater projection, but an early injury limited his campaign a bit,» said the trainer who achieved victory number 50 of the year this afternoon. «It’s a number I aim for every season, to then try to surpass it. Barboza has been a leader at Gulfstream Park several times. Since 2017, he has achieved the goal, only disrupted in 2020 due to a three-month suspension that reduced his visits to the winner’s circle to only 36 occasions.
Grand Valley is owned by Granpollo Stable, owned by David Geofroy. Today, he completed the distance in a time of 1’05″13, winning by almost two lengths against The Red Man, in what was the fourth race of the meeting, a claiming race with a prize of 21 dollars.

Grand Valley (Klimt) pasó de largo en el Claiming por valor de 10 mil dólares, disputado como la cuarta carrera de este viernes en Gulsftream Park. El castaño corrió desentendido de los punteros y, en el tramo final, avanzó abierto, bajo el rigor del panameño Miguel Vasquez, sumando así la tercera victoria de su campaña en once intentos.
“Miguel (Vásquez) cumplió las instrucciones. Generalmente, en tapeta hay que guardar caballo. Venía de ganar, pero creo que esa vez lo apuró antes de tiempo, hoy lució con mejor remate”, señaló Victor Barboza, entrenador del caballo nacido en Kentucky por el que pagaron 30 mil dólares en subasta.
“Es un caballo bastante útil, habría tenido mayor proyección, pero una lesión temprana limitó un poco su campaña”, dijo quien esta tarde alcanzó la victoria número 50 del año. “Es una cifra que apunto cada temporada, para luego intentar sobrepasarla”, Barboza ha sido líder en Gulsftream Park, varias veces. Desde 2017 ha cumplido el objetivo, solo truncado en 2020, por una suspensión de 3 meses que redujo el número de visitas al círculo de ganadores a solo 36 ocasiones.
