Bentornato (Valiant Minister’s) is currently the sensation among the two-year-old colts at Gulfstream Park. Trained by José Francisco D’Angelo, he has had three starts and recently won the Florida Sire Stakes (6F, $100,000, dirt) last Sunday. «He keeps performing better in each race, much credit to his trainer who knows him perfectly,» raid Emisael Jaramillo, the jockey for the undefeated colt.
When asked by Jaramillo about Bentornato’s potential compared to other sprinters he has ridden, such as Shancelot and X X Jet, the Venezuelan was cautious, indicating that he is still a young colt who will need to show his true potential in these selective races. «He has great talent. What we hope is that he maintains his form; his next race will be at seven furlongs,» he noted.
Bentornato races for the Leon King Stable, and he has also won the Proud Maan Stakes ($75,000), accumulating earnings of $158,000. The plans are to run him in the Affirmed Stakes (7F, $200,000) and then in the Reality Stakes (1 1/16, $300,000).
