Magnolia Prime takes on Rojo Rita in a speed duel for the Any Limit Stakes -

Those 120k invested by Gelfenstein Farm in the purchase of Magnolia Prime (Frosted), on the recommendation of trainer Victor Barboza Jr, at the Ocala sales in 2024, are now affirmed in a prospect who offered the best impression in his debut, on February 2, and who – a month and a half later – disputes his first great challenge, this Sunday, in the Any Limit Stakes (6F, Dirf, 125k).

“She was given plenty of time to learn a few things. And she learned them. The mare has quality, but we had to bring her to the right moment to debut her,” said Victor Barboza Jr., referring to that performance in which he won in 1’10”52 for the six furlongs and with a Beyer of 82. “And she did it in the Maiden Special Weight, in my opinion the strongest I’ve seen in the Winter, against fillies of very good physique and level,” he added.

Now, this sunday, the grey filly faces the challenges of six rivals, three of whom are trained by Saffie Joseph Jr: Rojo Rita (Volatile), Luvumorgan (Union Rags) and R Morning Brew (Curlin’s Honor).

Kamil Ozhan’s Rojo Rita was beaten as the favorite in the February 1 Forward Gal (G3) after a troubled trip of her own making when she charged violently for the rail, and will now look to return to her best form this Sunday in the Any Limit Stakes, the form she showed in her debut when she won by a margin of 16 lengths.

“At the gap she knocked around a bunch of horses in the race. I don’t know why she did that. It was very uncharacteristic,” said Joseph told the press. “I think in this race; she’ll be a different horse. All going well, she’ll be very hard to beat.”

R Morning Brew, who will make her first start in 2025 this Sunday, didn’t have the best performance in her last start, having taken first place in the seven-furlong FSS Susan’s Girl.

“Her first two starts were a surprise, as she was able to win them and show speed,” Joseph said. “We tried seven-eighths, a mile, and a sixteenth, but she didn’t want to go that far. She’s back in this [six-furlong] post, so I expect her to have a good race.”

Luvumorgan, meanwhile, graduated with a three-length victory in her second start at 1 1/16 miles on March 2. However, her trainer is doubtful whether she will be confirmed for this race.

In a speed cocktail, Unchained Elaine (American Pharoah) is a foe to consider. Ridden by Junior Alvarado for Patrick Biancone’s stable, she has a consistent season with two wins and several stakes finishes in just nine starts. Meanwhile, Hold Your Breath (McKinzie) and Melle Mel (Liam’s Map) will be looking to pull off an upset. Both are fresh off the Maiden and will attempt their climb in the only Stakes contested this Sunday at Gulfstream Park.

Ahora, este domingo, la potranca tordilla, enfrenta las exigencias de seis rivales, de las cuales tres son entrenadas por Saffie Joseph Jr: Rojo Rita (Volatile), Luvumorgan (Union Rags) y R Morning Brew (Curlin’s Honor).

Rojo Rita, de Kamil Ozhan, fue derrotada como favorita en el Forward Gal (G3) del 1 de febrero luego de un viaje problemático de su propia culpa, cuando se cargó violentamente hacia la baranda, ahora buscará regresar a su mejor forma este domingo en el Any Limit Stakes, esa que enseñó en su debut cuando ganó por margen de 16 cuerpos de ventaja.

“En el hueco, derribó a varios caballos durante la carrera. No sé por qué lo hizo. Fue muy inusual”, dijo Joseph a la prensa. “Creo que en esta carrera será una yegua diferente. Si todo va bien, será muy difícil de vencer”.

R Morning Brew, hará su primera actuación en 2025 este domingo, no tuvo el mejor desempeño en su última etapa,luego de haber logrado el primer puesto en la FSS Susan’s Girl de siete furlongs.

“Sus primeras dos carreras fueron una sorpresa, pues pudo ganarlas y demostrar velocidad”, dijo Joseph. “Intentamos siete octavos, una milla y un dieciseisavo, pero no quiso llegar tan lejos. Está de vuelta en este puesto [de seis furlongs], así que espero que haga una buena carrera”.

Por su parte,Luvumorgan se graduó con una victoria por tres cuerpos en su segunda carrera en 1 1/16 millas el 2 de marzo. Sin embargo, su entrenador está en duda si será ratificada para esta carrera.

En un cocktail de velocidad, es Unchained Elaine (American Pharoah), una enemiga a considerar. La conducida por Junior Alvarado, para el establo de Patrick Biancone, ofrece una campaña pareja con dos victorias y varias figuraciones clásicas en apenas nueve salidas.
